    EXAMPLE OUTPUT

    See what CriteriaPilot generates

Describe a feature in plain language. Get structured, testable Given / When / Then criteria you can review, edit and paste into your backlog.

    You write

As a registered user, I want to reset my password by email so that I can get back into my account if I forget it.

    CriteriaPilot generates (example)

    Acceptance Criteria

    Scenario 1: Reset link requested

Given I am on the “Forgot password” page
When I submit the email address of my account
Then a single-use reset link is sent to that address
And the page confirms the request without revealing whether the account exists

    Scenario 2: Expired reset link

Given I received a reset link more than 30 minutes ago
    When I open the link
Then I see a message that the link has expired
And I can request a new link

    Scenario 3: Invalid email format

Given I am on the “Forgot password” page
When I submit text that is not a valid email address
Then an inline error is shown and no email is sent

    GUIDE

    What are acceptance criteria?

Acceptance criteria are the specific, testable conditions a feature must meet before a team can call it done. They turn “what we want” into something developers can build and QA can verify.

    Acceptance criteria vs. user stories

A user story says who wants something and why: “As a shopper, I want to save my cart so I can finish checking out later.”

Acceptance criteria describe exactly what must be true for that story to be complete: the happy path, validation rules and edge cases.

The Given / When / Then format

The most popular format comes from behavior-driven development (BDD). Each scenario states a starting context, an action and an expected outcome, so it maps directly to a test case.

Given I am logged in with items in my cart
When I return to the site within 30 days
Then my cart still contains the same items

    Checklist (rule-based) criteria

For simple work, a short checklist is enough: “Password has at least 15 characters”, “An error appears under the field”, “The form cannot be submitted while invalid”.

Use Given / When / Then when behavior depends on state or on a sequence of steps.

    What makes criteria good

    • Testable: a clear pass or fail, with numbers instead of “fast” or “user-friendly”.
    • Specific: exact values, messages and limits.
    • Outcome-focused: what the user sees, not how it is built.
    • Complete: happy path, validation, errors and edge cases.
    • Independent: one behavior per scenario.

    FAQS

    Questions, answered

Everything you need to know about creating clear, QA-ready requirements with CriteriaPilot.

    What is CriteriaPilot?

CriteriaPilot is a web app that turns product requirements, ideas, screenshots and documents into structured, testable acceptance criteria. It can also draft user stories and bug reports. Nothing to install: it runs in your browser.

    What are acceptance criteria?

Acceptance criteria are the specific, testable conditions a feature must meet before it can be considered done. They are usually written as Given / When / Then scenarios or as a short checklist, and they give developers and QA a shared definition of “done”.

    Is CriteriaPilot free?

Yes. You can sign up and start generating for free, and no credit card is required. To keep the service fast for everyone, each account can run up to 3 generations per day.

    What files can I upload?

Screenshots and images, PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, HTML and RTF files, up to 25 MB each. Legacy .doc and Excel files are not supported yet: save them as DOCX, PDF or CSV first.

    Which languages are supported?

You can generate results in more than 40 languages. Choose the output language from the Language menu before you generate.

Can I edit the generated results?

Yes. You can edit a result in place, regenerate it, ask the AI to improve it, run a quality check, then copy or download it. Every result is saved to your history.

    Does it work with Jira?

CriteriaPilot has a Jira Ready mode that adds common Jira fields (project key, priority, labels, sprint and more) to stories and bug reports so you can paste them straight into a Jira issue. There is no direct Jira integration yet.

What is the difference between a user story and acceptance criteria?

A user story explains who wants something and why. Acceptance criteria describe exactly what must be true for that story to be complete, including the happy path, validation rules and edge cases.

    Can my team share results?

Yes. Create a team workspace and add teammates by email to share history, or create a share link for a single result.

    What happens to my data?

The text and files you submit are sent to Google’s Gemini API to generate your result. Your input text and the generated result are saved to your history, which you can delete at any time. Uploaded file contents are not kept in your history. See the Privacy Policy for details.
